Is it important to have a memorial?
The Camperdown Cemetery Trust has developed a number of options as it believes it is important that even if you are scattering cremated remains or placing them in an urn, a memorial is an important part of remembering a loved one.
Many people find comfort in having a special place to visit after the passing of a family member or loved one, even if the cremated remains have been scattered elsewhere. It is a thoughtful gesture that provides family and friends with a special place to reflect. It also provides a tangible public record for future generations.
Variety of options
Across the Camperdown Cemetery we offer a wide variety of cremated remains memorial options. Below is a description of some of the memorial options available.
- Grave
- Niche Walls
- Rose Garden Memorials
- Tree Memorials
Grave
Ashes can be placed in a grave located in Lawn 1, 2 and Lawn 3. Some graves are not suitable for burials but can easily accommodate ashes.
Niche Walls
The Camperdown Cemetery is fortunate to have 2 Niche Walls.
Niche Wall 1
Niche Wall 1 is adjacent to the road centred at the start of the Lawn 1 area.
The places for ashes in Niche Wall 1 are smaller than Niche Wall 2. Therefore, the ashes need to be placed in a smaller container. The balance of ashes can be scattered where the family wishes.
Niche Wall 2
Niche Wall 2 is at the rear of the Lawn 2 area along Oleander Drive.
Rose Garden Memorials
Rose Garden Memorials remain today, as they have for many years, one of the most popular forms of commemoration. The Camperdown Cemetery now has a number of Rose Gardens:
- Brenda Willis Rose Garden
- Athena Rose Garden
- Margaret Harvey Rose Garden
- Kempton Family Rose Garden
- Information Centre Rose Garden
- Roundabout Rose Garden
- Peter Sumner Rose Garden
The rose gardens can be used for ashes and/or a memorial plaque.
Various Trees
Located throughout the Cemetery are a variety of trees that provide a living memorial to honour loved ones. Tree memorials are a beautiful way for family members to be remembered.
Children Areas
The Cemetery have areas at the rear of Lawn 2 or behind Niche Wall 1 specifically for the interment of a child or interring cremated remains. These spaces provide a place for parents and family to visit.
